  • Great basic tool.
Right after receiving my unit I realized I made a mistake. As a one man shop there was no way I could keep things straight and turn the handle at the same time. Also there were simple other add on's that I saw others do on U-tube to make this more workable. I found that Mittler Bros. has a motorized add on kit (Part 200-302) and I took the chance to see if it was compatible. So I purchased it and added it to my Eastwood Bead Roller with very little adaptation. You'll need to purchase a LoveJoy Coupling Hub 1/2 to 1-in with spider and a 3/4-in steel or aluminum plate. Pictures attached. The tension block won't move freely without a spring and without removing the paint under it so it will slide. I still haven't addressed the flexing of the fixture yet.
  • Modified Bead Roller
The hand crank works fine if there are two people. Unfortunately that isn't always the case here so I added a motor to mine. Of course this voids any warranty but it is so well built that I doubt warranty service would ever be required anyway. I slightly modified it by adding two strips of 3/16" thick 2" X 2" Angle steel, horizontally, top & bottom rear and another bottom front. Stand is 1/8" wall 1" X 1" square tube. Tray and chain guard is 18awg steel. The crank was replaced with a 1/2" variable speed, reversible drill motor. I chose this model because of the removable handles which provided three solid threaded holes for mounting. The handle was cut off and the switch reused for the foot pedal control. Obviously the switch wires were extended. The foot pedal is made from 1/4" steel plate on the base with a gate hinge welded to it which in turn presses on the trigger from the drill motor. The cover is simply more 18awg steel formed to fit. The yellow tab on top of the foot pedal is the forward / reverse control. The chain drive consists of a 10 tooth sprocket welded to a 1/2" bolt shank then inserted in the drill chuck. The top sprocket is a 60 tooth driven by a #60 chain. The RPM is variable 0-50 RPM forward or reverse. It works fine with 16awg mild steel. I haven't tested it with thicker material.
  • Outstanding
I set it up in a standard large vise, not the optimum setup but adequate.I wil be solid mountig it to a wall bracket soon.I have just finished a plate for welding up the side of a ride on mower.to start of with I put a gentle pressure on the english wheel to arc the panel then I used the bead roller to put a top edge to match the profile on the mower deck and then against the curve I beaded a rolled edge at the bottom and using the shrinker stretcher on the top and bottom sized them in.Job done better than previous standard......Thanks to all the staff at Eastwoods
  • Just as advertized
Shipped on time, packeged well. After unpacking and setting up in vice I ran a piece of 16 gauge steel through it, the frame of the roller was twisting a little while rolling the 16, but it did it, just as advertised. I ran some beads on a sheet of 20 gauge steel, and tried a few diffrent die combinations, it worked great! For the money, you cannot beat this bead roller, works just fine for the home metal enthusiast. I plan on welding some supports and mounting to this roller and I'm sure it will handle the 16 gauge just fine after the modifications. The set up is not friendly and timely, but for the price verses the high end rollers out there, I have the time. Also, it really helps to have a second person to help crank the roller, its almost impossible to do this alone.
  • Simple to use.easy to work with. How did I live without it.
This is one of the most versatile tools in my kit as it does what it says ,as you can combine the dies and proce more comles panels.I just finished putting a 1/2 inch rolled edge on a part circlular piece of metal and then I was able to put an edge on the bottomcurving outward and upwards against the flow. Awesome if you dont understand Australian.
  • very good product and well built
Hello to all!!very good product and well built for the 30 g metal a 20 gauge even more if there are 40 year as workers of the steel like me. For those who have a lot of experience, better is worth to purchased this tools and make the request of person more experience to appreciate the art of working metals with a budget well invested.
  • Works wicked sweet.
Hooked a sewing machine motor to it, and modified the foot switch to fwd-rev. Then made a large wheel for the roller tension and Zip bang boom she rocks hands free.
  • Good unit so far
Received this the other day. it seems sturdy enough. Not sure whose idea those annoying 10mm square head bolts were though. Welded a VW clutch cable wingnut to the height adjuster bolt to make it easier to adjust. Like a user below I also felt the crank was too impractical. I had a beatup early 60's VW Bus steering wheel I modified and that works great. Now looking for an old sweing machine with treadle pedal to power this thing. With some tinkering it will be an excellent unit.
  • works great
Have used it to a great satisfaction awsome tool for the money
  • Very Pleased
Product reasonably priced and questions about shipping were addressed. Bead roller was shipped and arrived promptly. Direct shipping using FedEx and prepayment of duties avoided use of a broker and their high fees.
  • Great tool for the pirce
I haven't used it all that much, but from what I've done, it works really well. I plan on building a mounting bracket for it to attach to my bench, it's a little awkward in my vice. NIce tool!
  • Rolling Bead
I love this thing. Excellent tool. I run 18g. sheet metal through this. Very resilient. I have taken to collecting die sets, from companies that make Eastwood compatible sets.
  • Great for floorpans etc.
Bought it for 10 yrs ago. Glad for that. No doubt i should buy a new if i was needed
  • Awesome piece of equipment for metal fab
Super happy with the quality & function of this tool, canít beat the price
  • Bead roller
This is a great tool, very reasonable priced for the money
  • Bead roller
What a great tool,Tried it out and is works amazing.
  • Great roller for thr price
Made tha beads that I needed
  • Bead rooler works for less $$$
After setting up in my vise , that was a snap, I started to experiment with different thichnesses and found it worked as described and best with 20 gauge sheet metal. Although I rated the value lwoer thanmost it was becasue of the wondering top arm onn 18 gauge material some times. Maybe I was doing it wrong but the results for the money are good enough to make it a good deal If it were a little cheaper this would be a very great deal. I will be adding a heaveier plate to stabilize the top arm soon. THen i will purchse the louver die !! All in all it is over all something that you can buy for less and achive good reults when yopu follow the instructions !!!!
  • Roll on
Purchased this bead roller and the additional set of dies. Found that it would require two people to operate which for me was not an option. Replaced the crank handle with a wheel, problem solved. The bolt that holds the arm down stripped out almost on the first or second run. Rethreaded the hole and spot-welded a nut on top to give more bite. Got to work with the new set up and it worked like a charm with crisp beads and nice bends. Could use a spring to lift the top arm when loose to make it easier to change the dies. For the price plus a little time it is a good buy.
  • Easy to use right out of the box
I set it up in a large vise. I then ignored the material listed there. After I re-red the instuctions I was able to achieve good results. With the heavier materials I found it needed some extra plates to be welded to the top arm to keep it from wondering in a few instances with 18 G sheet metal, and perhaps i was doing some thing wrong too.
All in all a great tool for any one needing to do a little beading project for you and a few friends. If it were stiffer on the top or cheaper this is a great deal and tool collection starter for metal fabrications.
  • modifying
just a quick take on the crank handle. I had a 55 gallon barrel top ring used to seal and attach the top to a open top barrel. look at McMaster Carr if you don't know what I'm talking about. I welded the ends after cutting off the bolt piece. I then welded a 1/4" x 2" flat bar across the ring. welded a 1piece 1" shaft in the center of the collar tightened the shaft collar on shaft where the crank handle was and now have much more control. all parts were from a salvage yard/yard sale/junk I had laying around from my " whenever you might need it" pile. I like the guy's build with the 1/2" reversible drill idea.
  • Perfect novelist starter tool
Bought this item to start fabricating my own panels. When I received it I was amazed at how well built it was. Upon using the different dies it made nice crisp beads and offsets. The only downfalls was its a 2 man operation to ensure straight lines and it would flex but that was a easy fix adding stiffners were needed. I can't believe I waited this long to buy one. I would recommend this to anyone on a budget.
  • Great Price Quality Construction
Compared this roller with many others, Eastwood roller constructed heavier than the others (1/2" vs others 3/8) and cost is less. It came with two threaded holes in it, so I made a stand for it, should work perfect, I hope they come out with other mandrels that work with this. I'll start making panels next week.
  • Good Buy !
Received in two days, was packed well with no damage. I was able to bead metal within minutes. Read other reviews before purchase,no negetive surprises.Would be nice if manual had more information to maximize potential and save time.
  • Easy to use
I bought this unit to replace an Eastwood unit that I had sold some years ago. When it was delivered it was like old home week , easy to use, great results just a great product
  • So far so good!
Fast shipping and unit looks to be in great shape. I know there are some mods needed to get it up to par but for the money im looking forward to getting my use out of it.
  • high quility
